EST. 1927. ST JAMES’S.
By invitation.

The House · Plate I
Twelve rooms. One address.

You arrive through a corridor that has not changed since 1927. Narrow. Lit by a single sconce. The door at the end opens only when you are expected.
Two thousand labels. No wine list. The sommelier reads the table and returns with something you have never thought to ask for.

1927
The building at St James's Place was completed that year.
Meridian arrived ninety-two years later. The corridor has not changed.

The proposal
A candidate is proposed by one member and seconded by another, each of at least five years’ standing. The proposer writes to the Secretary; the candidate does not apply and is not interviewed. There is no form.
The committee
The committee meets quarterly — Michaelmas, Hilary, Easter, Trinity. Election is by ballot; a single blackball is sufficient. The committee gives no reasons and keeps no waiting list it publishes.
The house
Jacket after six. No devices in the dining room or the library. Guests are signed in by name and remain the member’s responsibility. The cellar is not a list; the sommelier reads the table.
Reciprocal
Eleven clubs across London, Paris, and New York extend the house to members travelling. Introduction is by the Secretary’s letter, never by self-presentation.
Enquiry
A proposer writes to the Secretary at St James’s Place. The house does not respond to enquiries that are not made by an existing member.
Twelve rooms. Each with a different character. Arranged by the house for groups from two to twenty-two.

Two thousand labels. Personally sourced. The sommelier does not pour by the glass.

Conversation evenings. Closed lectures. Seasonal dinners. The calendar is circulated to members only.
“The most guarded table in St James’s.”
