Open Now: Building STRIDE in the STELLAR Edition

We shipped a fifth Edition this month — STELLAR, the kinetic register — and STRIDE Athletic Club is the reference build. A performance club site that reads the visitor’s clock, runs on a live timetable, and lifted class bookings 62%. Here is the build journal.

Open Now: Building STRIDE in the STELLAR Edition

This month we released the fifth Edition. STELLAR is the kinetic register — monumental Archivo 900 over a night-blue surface, electric cyan as the signature with coral and citrine carrying the energy a single accent never could. It exists for the brands the first four Editions could not hold: fitness, sport, performance, events. Brands whose argument is motion, urgency, the decisive instant. STRIDE Athletic Club is the build that proved the register.

The Brief: A Site That Behaves Like the Room

STRIDE is a three-discipline performance club — boxing, strength, run and conditioning — out of an Ash Street loft. The room is alive. The old site was a static brochure: class times buried, no sense of whether the room was open right now, and a membership decision five clicks deep. The room moved; the website did not. The brief was to close that gap — to make the site present-tense, in session, never a brochure.

Why a Fifth Edition Existed at All

We did not invent STELLAR for STRIDE. We invented it because RED commands, CONCRETE measures, VELVET feels, and VOID refuses — and none of them move. A boxing club rendered in RED reads as an architecture firm. Rendered in VELVET it reads as a spa. Kinetic energy is not a color you add; it is a register you build: present-tense voice, snap motion on an expo-out curve, vivid saturated imagery, and a type system loud enough to read at a sprint. STELLAR is that register, locked and named so it survives the next ten performance brands without drifting into generic sport-brand cyan-and-coral noise.

Open now. Three classes today. The next one starts in twenty minutes.

The Live Clock Is the Whole Idea

The hero reads the visitor’s own clock and resolves it against the timetable: “open now, three classes today,” the next session counting down in real time. That single move does what a hundred words of body copy could not — it tells you the room is live and you are late. Urgency was the variable the Engagement Canvas flagged as flat on the old site; clarity was fine, presence was missing. The clock is presence, engineered.

Timetable-First Architecture

Once the clock sets the register, the rest of the site feeds the next-session decision rather than a brochure tour. Everything points at booking.

  • A viewport-scale Archivo 900 hero with the live “open now” clock resolving against visitor time
  • One shared editorial timetable across the Disciplines and Classes pages — authored once, never duplicated
  • A multi-step booking wizard with inline confirmation states, so the commitment happens in place instead of five clicks away
  • A four-coach roster — boxing, conditioning, mobility and recovery, strength — each with a dedicated page
  • A single-tier $285 unlimited membership: one decision, no pricing-matrix paralysis

Built Like the Room: Hand-Authored Static

STRIDE is hand-authored static HTML with inlined CSS and JavaScript — no framework, no build step — served from the ALO Cloudflare edge. The same discipline behind our own site: the constraint of writing it by hand keeps the motion budget honest and the payload near-zero, which is how a hero this loud still loads instantly. STELLAR’s snap motion only reads as energy if it never waits on a bundle.

What Shipped

  • +62% class bookings — the site finally converts the urgency the room already had
  • -34% time to book — the wizard collapsed a five-click membership decision
  • 94% DQA score — the STELLAR reference build, against our internal quality gate
  • 3 disciplines, one timetable, one membership tier — complexity removed, not added

A brochure tells you the club exists. STRIDE tells you it is open, a class starts in twenty minutes, and you can be in it. The site finally moves like the room does.
